Benigoi

Benigoi

A solid orange or red koi with nonmetallic scales.

The benigoi may well be the grandfather of all koi. This variety was discovered in groups of carp raised for food.

The farmers, captivated by the beautiful orange color, began selectively breeding their fish for more and more striking colors and markings. These first “colored carp” became the koi that we know and love today.
